Can Sharks sweep the Red Wings this time?

The Detroit Red Wings have been swept twice during this current 20-season run of playoff appearances.

The San Jose Sharks were all set to make it third last season by winning the first three games in the second round. They get a redo tonight as they look to play the minimum in this series at Joe Louis Arena tonight.

The result last May wasn’t pretty: the Red Wings won, 7-1.

“We have to be prepared,” Sharks forward Dany Heatley said. “Last year in Game 4, they came out and really took it to us. The result wasn’t very good for us. We have to understand whatever push they gave (Wednesday), they are going to come out even harder.”

The Sharks have never swept a team out of the playoffs, although they have only led 3-0 twice in franchise history. Other than last season against the Wings, the Sharks failed to close the deal in second round again the Colorado Avalanche as Joe Sakic scored in OT in 2004.

Each of the first three games of this series has been decided by one goal and the Wings have totaled just five goals, two coming off the stick of captain Nicklas Lidstrom. (On a side note, the recently launched The Detroit Sports Site details Lidstrom’s top-10 playoff goals.) Players such as Johan Franzen, Todd Bertuzzi  and Valtteri Filppula have yet to net a point in this series.

So, can the Sharks join the Tampa Bay Lightning and advance to the conference final with minimal effort?

As I said, sure they could but they won't.  The Wings always have a shot.

Can Sharks sweep the Red Wings this time?

I do not think it will be a sweep. Detroit is too good for that to happen. They are going to put it all out there tonight as there is no other choice. The Sharks have played one heck of a series so far but Detroit will win tonight. I am not looking forward to any more games yet, this one is the focus and then we will go from there. Go Wings!!!

Can Sharks sweep the Red Wings this time?

I'm sorry i still dont believe that the sharks out played he wings in all three games MAYBE AND THATS A BIG MAYBE 1 of the three but not all 3. The wings should of won game 3 the Sharks scored late in that game  to tie it and then where out shot 7-3 in OT and got a break to win. But i wouldn't say they out played the wings. they where all good games.

You're right, they've all been real good games. The kind of games that makes the NHL playoffs ROCK!!! Maybe they're not being outplayed, but they are being outscored. The Sharks are doing just enough and have the Wings on the brink of being swept. Call it close if it helps, but I think this series is over.

Mr. Perez....says the sharks can sweep as did the Lightning...with minimal effort! Well, I can see that Mrs. A.J Perez has NO inclination as to what it is to give any effort. Clearly if he had there might be more substance and effort to his so called hockey columns.

Can Sharks sweep the Red Wings this time?

This series has been so close, with all one goal games and two in OT.  I think that the Wings will win and probably not just by one tonight, but they obviously have to really dig in and want it more.  If they take it one game at a time, who knows, they might pull out the series...  With things so close so far, this would be one of the series where a miracle can happen.  Anyone remember them coming back from 3-1 on the Blues?  Stevie Y, triple OT, 1-nill.

Can Sharks sweep the Red Wings this time?

" Onwers don't like sweeps " ? It's true that there is money in the playoffs , as the owners don't have to pay the players , but , if your team can sweep any other team , that's better than going to the 7th game and loose a couple of your players , to injury . That's not what they want . The owners want to win the Cup , as much as the players . Unless your name is Thomas Golisano , and Lary Quinn , those two " owners " only wanted money .

Can the Sharks sweep the Wings ? Yeah , they can . As long as they play like the first 3 games , they can win . If they come out and play like " we're here , we win " , they won't . They have to out play the Wings , like they did in the first 3 . And stay out of the penalty box .

Can Sharks sweep the Red Wings this time?

Don Cherry said it best when Detroit was down 3-0 to New Jersey in the Cup final in '95. "If Detroit loses this game, they'll have no chance at winning the cup!!" As the cliche goes and someone already mentioned, I believe, gotta take 'em one game at a time. Don't worry about winning 4 in a row, just game 4.

The time is now!! Down 3-0, the ship is sinking from a Shark attack. Time for the Wings to respond. They gotta ask themselves, "What would Brody and Hooper do?"

Can Sharks sweep the Red Wings this time?

I don't see the Sharks sweeping. I think the wings will be geared up for this game there gona throw everything but the kitchen sink at the sharks. If the wings win this game tonight SJ better hope it's note a blow out.....cause if it is that might just be the spark the wings need to make there come back. they need to break down there goalkeeper..He is playing to good. It's gona be one Hell of a game tonight and i hope the wings can pull it off........we will see you after the game.
