EA Sports unveiled the final two players for the NHL '12 legends feature on Thursday, and they are former Penguins center Mario Lemieux and Detroit Red Wings great Gordie Howe.
With these two names finally announced we now know the nine players that will be included: Lemieux, Howe, Wayne Gretzky, Chris Chelios, Ray Bourque, Jeremy Roenick, Borje Salming, Patrick Roy and Steve Yzerman. Almost all of the names are relatively recent, and it's hard to really believe something is celebrating the NHL's "legends" when it doesn't include a player like Bobby Orr, for example.
The only two players that appeared in the NHL before 1979 are Salming (he played for the Maple Leafs starting in 1973) and Howe (he made his NHL debut in 1946). Everybody else started their careers within the past 30 years. Still, it's an interesting part of the game that will allow users to add these players to any team.
You can check out the trailer featuring Lemieux and Howe at the EA Sports website.

NHL '12 legends are completeI have to say I do not know why the EA Sports team does not put past teams for every team, like the 86-87 Edmonton Oilers (Gretzky, Kurri, Anderson, Messier, Fuhr, Coffey, |Tikkannen), and for Toronto have the option to use the 66-67 Leafs with (Keon, Mahovlich, Armstrong, Kelly, Bower, Horton, Pullford, Stanley)...have the 93-94 Vancouver Canucks (Bure, Linden, Courtnell, McLean), etc etc...people would love to play with these teams and they have them in Football and it seems to be a hit.

NHL '12 legends are INcompleteWith the advent of face technology, are you JOKING EA Sports? You dare to call half of these players legends???
I'll tell you who are legends... Jacques Plante. Rocket Richard. Ken Dryden. Bobby Orr. Mark Messier. Gilbert Perreault. Dominik Hasek. Borje Salming? Chris Chelios? Jeremy ROENICK??? Completely embarrassing. I was going to buy this game, but now I'm not so sure :( |

NHL '12 legends are completeBorje Salming was a great hockey player, but a legend? I would of chose either Darryl Sittler or Lanny McDonald. The other 11 players were good choices, but that would not of been my 12 legends. I think EA has a great idea with the ability to add hockey legends onto current rosters, but I don't like the way they're is doing it. All NHL teams should have legendary players they can unlock. Maybe that can be the next EA game? How about an EA game with legendary teams? Montreal [late 70's], Islanders [early 80's], Flyers [mid 70's], Bruins [early 70's],Penguins [early 90's], Oilers [mid 80's], Devils [early 2000's] etc... That would be cool...

NHL '12 legends are completeit's a video game, mickey mouse can be a legend. With only a hand full of players, i guess this leaves the majority of people to be unhappy because "their" legend didn't get the nod to represent themselves in 64-bit cpu form. |
