We knew which players were going to be taking part in the All-Star game this season, but we had no idea which team they would be playing for and who they would be playing against. It was all settled in Ottawa on Thursday night as Senators forward Daniel Alfredsson and Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara, the two captains for this year's game, made their selections as you can see below in the order they were picked.

Chara won the coin toss and ended up with the first selection and chose Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk, and continued to load up on offense in the early rounds going with Evgeni Malkin, Marian Hossa and Phil Kessel.

Kessel, of course, was the last pick in the All-Star draft a year ago, but went in the eighth round this season. The last man standing this season was San Jose Sharks forward Logan Couture

Two developments that should not have been a surprise to anybody: First, The Vancouver-Boston rivalry that started in last year's Stanley Cup Finals, and carried over into this season as we saw in their regular season matchup a couple of weeks ago, continued on as Chara did not pick a single Canuck.

That means that unlike last year when they were split up, the Sedin twins, Henrik and Daniel, will play on the same team as they've always done throughout their time in the NHL.

Also not a surprise: Alfredsson made sure to pick every Senator in the game, ending up with Erik Karlsson (his first pick), Jason Spezza (his second pick) and Milan Michalek.

Like the idea of captains picking teams.  But, also want to see  East vs. West.  Can't captains pick players from their own conferences?

They would have to stop the voting by the fans and the captain's would then pick who they want from their conference. I don't see that happening.

How bad were the Ottawa fans?  Not abit of class in that city.  The booing and obnoxious comments being yelled were so rediculous.  It reminded me of the bafoons in Canadian Parliament.  Here I thought it was just the politicians in Ottawa that were Idiots.  Nope it's everyone in that stupid city.  Thanks for making Canada look bad you garbage pile of a city.

Sorry canuck1980 but your city last June made Canada look pretty bad.  Riots on the steets.  Destroying Cars and Business after your Canucks choked again.  I really think the world likes Canada other than Vancouver.  Might want to go away before more people rip you and your people a new one!

Alright. This Bettman gargage has gone on far enough. PLEASE go back to the cool Orange & Black (Flyers colors?) NHL logo and feature the Wales Vs. Campbell Conference and bring back the Patrick, Adams, Norris & Smythe divisions. Jez. East, West. Compass headings. The NHL's uniqueness is what made it special. Some of these are no-brainers like Malkin, Neal, Kessel & Giroux. But Iginla? And his meager 39 points? Why don't you guys send me. When I'm on the ice for open hockey, I either can't get if off the ice or I zip it into the top shelf. I guess I average 50%. Better than some of these clowns. Perry. When Selanne is almost 2x Perry's age and has more points?

probably because if you dont have nhl center ice package, people arent going to see to many san jose games.
fans play a big part. as well, san jose, a lot of guys have assists. you gotta score to be in the alstar game. 3 goals and 30 assists dont cut it unless your a d man.

LOL, bigpoppajackass is back!. The tool that doesnt have anything in his arsenal other than bitter hatred for a the Bruins team who taught his Canucks that hockeys is a mans game. I must say bigpoppa is funny as he will never engage in a real hockey conversation since the 65 IQ just makes it too difficult. I do enjoy his rants though. Keep em coming bigpoppajackoff-whether the Bruins win the cup or not the ankle biters and pillow puffers on the Canucks will not either.

2012 NHL All-Star Rosters

Maybe I'm missing something, but how is an All-Star game an 'All-Star'  game when it leaves out some of the better players for those who aren't as good?

I've gone throught he list 3 times and I still don't see Marty St Louis. I'm glad for the guys who are there, and won't say anything bad about them, other than the fact that  Marty skates circles around them nightly.

Marty aside, I'd pick Pekka Rinne over any or all of the goalies picked. Any of 'em.    'Specially Timmy.

I'm thinking the two Captains aren't very good pickers. I understand Alfredsson wanting his homies, but Chara?

Can I get these two giuys to have teams in my fantasy league?  I know the others in my league would appreciate it. Cool

The joke that was the OWS was summed up by the picture of Kanye West holding a protest sign with a $50,000 rolex watch on his wrist.
