Often times more popular than the Super Bowl itself is the extravaganza that has become the commercials. It's the one sporting event that I can think of where people actually have to debate making their bathroom run during the game or at the breaks.
I'm not telling you anything you don't already know when I say the last few years the commercials have been lacking.
Well maybe the good ones have been hiding on Canadian television this whole time. Because this ad that Budweiser will run during the big game in Canada is gold, Jerry! Gold!
Seriously, that is one of the cooler things I've ever seen. This is your regular beer-league hockey game and the small rink gets filled with a rabid fan base complete with body paint, thundersticks and banners (including, of course, Budweiser's). The looks on the players' faces is priceless.
I feel obligated to go indulge in some Bud in honor of the excellent ad they have given us. It's like buying CDs nowadays. Sometimes an artist does a song so good that you feel you owe it to them to bypass the iTunes download and go buy the whole CD.
Jeez, the Red Green Show and now this? Those folks in Canada get all the good stuff. I get that hockey isn't all that big in the States, but this commercial is so well done, it would play well in the U.S., I'm sure of that.
But don't despair, America. Your commercials will include Jerry Seinfeld (two Seinfeld references in one post?!) and Ferris Bueller.
