Derek Dorsett vs. John Scott is not a fair fight

Derek Dorsett of the Columbus Blue Jackets is no stranger to fights.

According to his player page at hockeyfights.com he had been involved in 14 during the 2011-12 season, one of the league leaders in that category, and had found himself in 50 regular season fights in his entire NHL career entering his game on Saturday afternoon. So he kind of knows what he's doing when he decides to drop the gloves, and it's not much of a surprise that he did so in the third period of a game his team ended up losing 6-1 to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Choosing John Scott as his opponent probably wasn't one of the better decisions he's ever made on the ice because ... well, we'll just let the video speak for itself. Particularly the shot at the 53-second mark that shows what is an obvious disparity in size.

The Blue Jackets list Dorsett as being 6-feet, 198 pounds.

The Blackhawks list Scott as being 6-feet-8, 270 pounds.

Nothing else really needs to be said.

Derek Dorsett vs. John Scott is not a fair fight

Picking a fight with a guy that much bigger then you in the 3rd period when the score is 6-1 is not bringing energy to your team.  It is not gutsy.  It is not brave.  It is borderline retarded though.

size difference or not what is the point of this fight? It's 6 to 1 in the third period. It's a total mismatch. If you're trying to ignite energy in your team you need to pick a spot before it's way too late. This just made Dorsett look like a dumb ass

Derek Dorsett vs. John Scott is not a fair fight

Derek Dorsett's JOB is to bring energy to the Columbus Blue Jackets.  He is in the NHL to agetate the opposition and when necessary challenge the biggest guy on the ice. And that's exactly what he did.

The fact that the fight came right after his coach calling a time out while getting blown out would/should indicate that the coach challenged his team to refuse to go quietly into the night.

Agitating, enegry players are on every team.  They play a role that teammates readily recognize and appreciate.

In the same game Rookie Jimmy Hayes came to the defense of fellow rookie Dylan Olsen when MacKensie took a run at him.  At 6'6", 220 lbs. Hayes was a great teammate to let MacKenzie know he's got Olen's back.

My point was that the idea of him having "balls" to fight Scott is ridiculous.
Being an idiot is the only explanation for him going after Scott at that point in the game.

Dorsett doesn't have balls, he's a moron.

What they didn't show was Scott actually smiling and Dorsett when he challenged Scott because of the size difference.

Foley had a blast calling that game.   I hope Gretz or Stubits post Foley's rant about when Mason was bitching at Richards after he was yanked in the 2nd.   Quality stuff.

Wow what a dumbass...his team is down 5 goals and he starts the fight, gets a suckpunch in and still manages to get his ass kicked. Reminds me of what happened to cortland finnegan.
